The "spirit of the age" or the spirit of the times" are the ideas, beliefs, and consciousness that is typical of society during a particular period of history. Also known as the zeitgeist, this energy changes as we progress in time. History does not repeat itself, but it often resembles itself. And every new era in history can be considered as unprecedented even if it appears to be the same. This is why it is important to distinguish the difference between reality and appearance. War and conflict has been a steady staple throughout the history of mankind. Disputes and disagreements have a way of starting fights. Fights and strife have a way of causing battles. Battles and clashes cause wars. Today war has been expanded into a new dimension. We are replacing conventional warfare with new unconventional strategies that are gradually replacing guns, missiles and bombs. The advent of modern sophisticated machinery and methodologies is changing the way we address squabbles of all sorts. The old saying that "sticks and stones may break bones but words can never hurt me," has come full circle. Words alone are damaging enough but words with pictures are even more damaging. The "spirit of our times" utilizes the new invisible forces of modern warfare disguised and hidden within the devices we depend on. We are being victimized by the prevalence of instruments that exploit the illusions of imaging. The manipulation of multimedia along with modern day "data mining" is today's battleground. These new technologies are adaptive, addictive and predictive. The blueprints look different but the design has not drastically changed. Today, even the language used and the terminologies describing functionality disguise or distort the "real" relationships to reflect a sensitivity to both class and cultural diversity. However the true built in "systemic imbalances" remain. Even the evolving terms used in computer networking mirrors this. What was once prominently referred to as "Master/Slave" architecture is now politely termed a "Client/Server" model. However, changing terminology does not correct or erase systemic flaws, no more then removing a racist state flag or changing the racist name of the football team representing our nations capital. Although these derogatory expressions are no longer being debated publicly or rubbed in our faces we believe that their "spirit" remains despite what is being said. Although salt is no longer being sprinkled in the wound it hasn't had time enough to heal. Our admonition is to Show, don't tell!

OUR COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS CREATES OUR ETHICAL & MORAL CODE.

The "spirit of the day" focuses on our prevailing leadership and societies reaction to it. The "spirit of the time" is responsible for the advent of other emerging forces of energy and actions. Today's political divisions, inflammatory accusations, protests, insults, name calling, Bible flaunting and open disrespect has birthed these "spirits of division." This spirit in turn has also had babies of its own. Dehumanizing one another allows our "consciousness in spirit" to see ourselves as superior and others as inferior. Although we may behave like animals we should never treat one another as less then human. When push come to shove animals are expendable. If they invade "our" territory, become a threat or cannot be tamed we can put them down. (Kill em) When people are seen as such it's easy to kill them too. The "spirit of Division" has spawned hatred, which spawned prejudice, which spawned racism. The "spirit of racism" thrives on a perceived superiority over the inferiority of another skin color or culture. Of course these spirits existed all along, but they were subject to the "spirit of their time." Although we are only citing specific spiritual manifestations in this post, they are by no means the only spirits at work. It appears that the "spirit" of the "Black Lives Matter" movement emerged just in time to preserve some of the "threatened cultures" in this country. The movement exposed a "systemic genocide" that was further exacerbated by the effects of this pandemic. We now know in fact that our elderly and minority populations are the "most vulnerable" communities in this country. The people most affected by economic and social inequities are the same people most afflicted by this virus. The saddest fact of all regarding this virus is that 80% of all the deaths in the U.S. occurred among those 65 or older. Community spread along with the idea of "herd immunity" would have decimated these populaces. Fortunately these disparities came to light. What we are experiencing today falls under the label of the "spirit of these times." What we do or fail to do, our behavior, reflects the attitude and consciousness of our "spirit." Our response in dealing with such a great disparity in the death rates among these different classes demonstrates exactly how much we care about the historical legacy of our weakest links. We can thank our elderly population for maintaining and sustaining this way of life; while also thanking our enslaved minorities for establishing the wealth and riches of our country through exploitation. These classes of people have been and remain the most marginalized among us. Its obvious that our long-standing systemic health and social inequities have put elderly people and racial or ethnic minorities at an increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19. These groups continue to be the most expendable segment of society and remain at an increased risk. It is both wise and beneficial for such "classes of people" to fear and respect this virus. Since we know exactly which classes of people need to follow extra precautions during the pandemic shouldn't they be protected rather than perishing at a rate that's over three times greater than the rest of the population? The process of "herd immunity," like culling, is designed to thin out the herd. The process is also known as "the survival of the fittest" or "only the strong survive." It is the weak and most vulnerable people that we've lost during this thinning process. We witnessed two of the most powerful leaders on the planet survive "covid-19" seemingly without a hitch. Is it reasonable to believe that the most vulnerable of us would recover from this pandemic in the same way? We think not. A so-called "Christian" country that fails to follow the tenets of its calling, doctrine and commandments may be considered apostate. In Romans 15 the Bible admonishes the strong to bear the infirmities of the weak. It's far easier to slander the "law of love" and quote a scripture from Romans 3 verse 8 that says "let us do evil that good might come?" This is the logic wicked people use to justify their evil deeds with license. Racial and social justice is just as important as financial security and profit.

PLACING BLAME FOCUSES ON REVENGE RATHER THEN RECTIFICATION.

We're all guilty!  Our leaders, their followers and their dissenters have failed to protect our weakest links. We already knew that minorities were the least protected by law enforcement. Our history plainly chronicles the atrocities inflicted over hundreds of years of exploitation. Could this be why African Americans are historically suspicious of a health care system that experimented on them both as slaves and after being free. Even after the Tuskegee syphilis scandal, (1932-1972) the systemic abuse continued. Is there any wonder why so many minorities distrust doctors, medicines and needles. The syphilis scandal occurred when infected negro's, as they were called then, participated in a study and were monitored for almost 40 years but left untreated despite the availability of medication for the disease. The pattern continues even today. This pandemic further highlighted the fact that the elderly and minorities are the least protected by our health care system along with illegal aliens. Being expendable as a class or race of people is more then a conspiracy theory when we see it repeatedly and consistently across different systems overseen by the same government. It's now almost time to administer the vaccine. Remember vaccines don't save lives vaccinations do. As of today the CDC estimates that 20%, that's one in every five people in this country have been infected by this virus. We still must stop s-p-r-e-a-d-i-n-g it even though a vaccine is imminent. Of course our health care workers and front line public employees like grocery workers, doctors, nurses, police, fire, sanitation and others in like capacities need protection first. Let's see if the vaccination process prioritizes the "most vulnerable" as the primary recipients to be initially treated. Even with a vaccine it will probably take an additional full year to thoroughly immunize the the public and mitigate further spread. Remember, this is no miracle bullet, there will be downsides and side effects. In that this is a novel virus there may be long term or permanent symptoms remaining in the millions of people infected that recovered. This comprehensive effort will go down in history as a controversial attempt or a booming success. History is just that; it is history. The past cannot be erased but it can be improved upon. That's what mutual progress is all about. PROGRESS should be defined as a win-win scenario that simultaneously moves us forward and solves the problems. The blame game is a lame way of shifting responsibility and denying complicity in negative results. The culture of our nation has its own unique idiosyncrasies. Celebrating Thanksgiving is just one of them. The "spirit of liberty" must be subject to the "spirit of safety." Our individual approach to our various cultural observances have permitted motorcycle rallies, thousand of participants at marriages, street protests and religious gatherings of all kinds. Without a unified nationwide, even worldwide approach to fighting a common enemy we individually turn our permission into license.  Yes, this is a free country. But does anyone's individual freedom give them license to yell "fire" in a crowded movie theater when there is no danger? In a free country does everyone have the right to endanger their neighbors through negligence? The "spirit of unity" knows that united we stand and divided we fall. Let's now be the United States in America. Let's fight as allies against the adversary we call "Covid-19."

EMBRACING THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS AND KEEPING IT THROUGH THE YEAR! 

The "spirit of this moment" is all about profit! Maybe this is why really inexpensive supplements like vitamin D and Zinc are not getting clinical trials or recommendations from our leaders. Because these supplement are so cheap and easy to make there is very little profit in promoting them. WE CAN RE-PURPOSE DRUGS! Why have we overlooking well known existing drug therapies like ivermectin in favor of new (novel) remedies? Is it because new medications make millions and vaccines make billions? It seems that the incentive to make money may be the hindrance. Remember, the love of money is the root of all evil and if such is the case it 's just evil. This is the holiday season and the "holiday spirit" is upon us. Thanksgiving is a time when we traditionally s-p-r-e-a-d holiday love and cheer personally. But we must control and subject the "spirit of the day" which operates in an apathetic and carefree way to restrictions. This spirit must be subordinate to the "spirit of wisdom" which pleads for compliance and obedience. The rest of the world is watching on incredulously. They see us closing in on the finish line, but willing to forfeit months of sacrifice for one day of celebration. This is similar to the story of "Esau" in the bible who sold his birthright for a single meal from his scheming brother Jacob. It's hard to accept, believe, fear or have proper regard for something intangible we can't see! Don't blame 2020; it's not the year, it's not the President, it's not the Pope. It's just one of the signs of the times; rather it's the spirit of the times! Fortunately, the "spirit of the season" sometimes called the "Christmas spirit" is a very powerful force. This spirit appeals to our sense of charitable coexistence through actionable love. The "spirit of the age" is subject to the "spirit of the season" and we can keep this spirit year round if we chose to soberly direct it accordingly. We change any atmosphere for the better when we stop polluting it. And as an example we have seen a dramatic decrease in air pollution this year. Our air quality world wide has improved during this pandemic because over half of the oil pumped from the ground worldwide is used in transportation. Sometimes it's not about what we do, sometimes it's more about what we STOP doing! This is more then a challenge this is our opportunity to participate in the "Holiday spirit" safely. We can s-p-r-e-a-d Holiday cheer without s-p-r-e-a-d-i-n-g this virus if we operate in the most powerful spirit there is. The "spirit of God" which is the "spirit of love" works through the actions and consciousness of any and all who chose its behavior. By embracing these "spirits" and sharing our love and concern with and for one another we can s-p-r-e-a-d the message that at times its okay to not be okay, and no matter what we all need LOVE.
